SONY HEADQUARTERS COMPETITION

Sony Berlin

CLIENT:
LOCATION:
COMPLETION DATE:
Sony Corporation
Berlin, Germany
1991; Unbuilt

This design competition for the European headquarters for SONY in Berlin was based on an approved master plan for the rebuilding of Postdamer Platz and Leipziger Platz, which created a triangular site radiating from Postsdamer Platz.

In addition to the SONY Headquarters, the program included a mix of other building types - a hotel, apartment buildings, rental offices, cinemas and retail. The design proposed a large circular covered space as the focus of the development, which would draw people arriving from the subway systems or underground parking into the center of the site.

The SONY Headquarters located in a triangular building at the site's busiest corner, would have a large Jumbotron video screen to advertise products and to announce cultural events programmed for the central space.
